Saturday Night Rising - 05/31/2008
Insomniac def. Tony Edison and Antonio Profaci
After the match, Profaci was fired on the spot and forcibly removed from the arena.
Sunday Night Rising
The Phoenix Wrestling logo appears on the screen. Then a countdown starts to count from 10 to 1. Then the screen explodes into the theme song of Rising, “Rise Above This” by Seether, as shots from last week are shown before coming into the arena where the fans are going crazy looking forward to seeing some great wrestling action.
The commentators are now shown and they are hyping up the matches for tonight’s contest. Just as they start to hype the main event. “Fear” by Disturbed starts up and the fans look around to see who’s coming out. Then as if on cue, the owner of Phoenix Wrestling, Jonathan Cage steps out from behind the curtain.
Abigail Copeland: “Ladies and Gentlemen, I introduce to you…the owner of Phoenix Wrestling, JONATHAN CAGE!!!!”
Cage walks down the ramp and calmly steps into the ring. He smiles at Abigail Copeland and she politely hands him the microphone. He holds the ropes up for her as she makes her exit.
Cage: “Konichiwa, Nagoya.”
The fans respond to his slight knowledge of the native language.
Cage: “As the rumors confirmed I do have a very HUGE announcement tonight. I’m not going to bullshit you on this. I’m cutting to the chase. Starting next week, there will be a tournament to determine the very first PHOENIX WRESTLING WORLD CHAMPION!!!”
After the short pause for the translator to translate that news to the fans. They go nuts at the idea of having champions in the company.
Cage: “So the format of the tournament goes as follows…there will be sixteen people involved in the tournament. Now I know what you’re thinking, you only have fourteen members on the roster. Well, I have the final two spots filled…but you won’t know who they are until our very first Pay Per View entitled Ascension, coming to you from the capital of this beautiful country, Tokyo.”
At the mention of Tokyo, the crowd here starts going crazy.
Cage: “Now here’s how the format works, there will be four matches next week, and four matches at the Pay Per View. The eight winners will go into a special winner’s bracket. And the losers will have their own bracket as well. From then on it’s win…or you’re out of the tournament. The winner of each bracket will face off at Legal and Loving It for the World Championship. Also at Legal and Loving It, the other titles will be on the line as well as something very special I have planned concerning contenderships. That is all…now ENJOY THE SHOW!!!”
He drops the microphone as “Fear” plays and he exits the ring.
The commentators hype up the first match of the evening which contains the return of former UX standout Killah Kain. The camera goes to Abigail Copeland.
Killah Kain v. Antonio Carter
Abigail Copeland: “The opening contest…is scheduled for one fall.”
“You’re All Dying” by Necro kicks up as Killah Kain steps out from behind the curtain to a mixed reaction from the crowd. He stands there and soaks in all the energy of the crowd before calmly walking down the ramp to the ring. He slides in and waits for his opponent.
Then, “Gasoline” by Seether plays over the speakers and out walks Antonio Carter to about the same reaction as Kain got earlier. He walks down the ramp and blatantly ignores the fans. He slides into the ring and gets right in Kain’s face only to be separated by the referee. The ref then signals for the bell.
The two men come to the center of the ring and stare each other down. Carter is the first one to instigate contact by shoving Kain. This of course leads Kain to return the favor. This starts a shoving match which ends with a slap in the face by Kain to Carter. Then the slugfest ensues. The two men begin to trade rights and lefts at each other. Kain gets the upper hand driving Carter back to the corner. The ref forces the clean break, but over the ref’s shoulder Carter uses a free hand and pokes Kain in the eye.
Kain backs up holding his face as the ref is clueless as to what had just transpired. But Carter charges Kain who in turn catches Carter in a back body drop. Carter arches his body from the pain of that high impact maneuver. Kain starts to follow up with elbow drops one after another. He hits two then Carter moves before the third one hits. Kain appears to have injured his elbow after that miscue.
This is the opportunity that Carter needs. He starts to stomp at the arm making Kain writhe out in pain. Carter picks him up and hits a jumping arm breaker. Carter then transitions into a fujiwara armbar. The ref immediately jumps into position as Carter wrenches back causing Kain to scream out in pain. But Kain still manages to crawl slowly to the ropes. After what seems like an eternity, Kain grabs the ropes forcing Carter to break the hold. Carter holds it to the count of four then lets go.
Carter signals for the end. He sets Kain up for the Carter Experience. Kain gets up and Carter comes in but Kain ducks and lifts him up into that Argentine backbreaker. He then drops Carter on his head with the Killah Driver. He covers and gets the three count.
Abigail Copeland: “Here is your winner…Killah Kain!!!”
Jonathan Cage is seen sitting in his office. The phone rings and Jonathan reaches over and picks it up.
Cage: “Hello?”
Alyson Starr: “Jon…”
Cage: “Yes Alyson?”
Alyson Starr: “Umm…Kaia isn't there.”
Cage: “How do you know?”
Alyson Starr: “Cause she’s with me…in New York.”
Cage: “Alyson!”
Alyson Starr: “I know...I know. I'm sorry, I needed her here.”
Cage: “Fine…But next week, You BOTH better be here.”
Alyson Starr: “You got it Jon.. Thanks!”
He hangs the phone up, then mutters under his breath.
Cage: “Women…”
With that we go back to the ring for our next match.
Brandon O'Neal v. Adam Cage
Abigail Copeland: “The following contest is scheduled for one fall…”
"Are You Dead Yet?" by Children of Bodom hits the PA system and Brandon O'Neal walks out the cheering fans. He slowly walks down to the ring and steps in, letting the entire world know he's ready to make an impact in Phoenix. With that "Chop Suey" by System Of The Down hits the speakers and Adam Cage runs out with a head full of momentum. He sprints down the ramp and slides into the ring, but O'Neal takes advantage of his excitement, and begins kicking Cage's back.
Cage fight back into position and the two trade punch after punch. Really heavy shots. Cage gains control and backs O'Neal against the ropes. He Irish whips him across the ring and swings around Brandon, locking in a sleeper hold. O'Neal quickly elbows out of it and hits an impromptu stunner that leads to an eventual cover. No, only two. O'Neal looks up at the ref in exasperation, but continues his assault on Cage. Cage, however, counters again and throws O'Neal off the ropes and hits a big clothesline.
O'Neal falls to the ground, grabbing at his face, and Cage immediately goes on the assault. After a good five minutes of abuse, O'Neal comes up with a big counter from nowhere, a DDT, and covers for the second time. No, again, only a two count. Both men now fight to get to their feet, but O'Neal is up first, and he pokes Cage in the eyes allowing ample time to set up for the Ego Trip, which he connects with! Again, Brandon covers, but again Cage kicks out just before three!
O'Neal looks around, shocked, and tries to think of another way to beat Cage. He lifts up the Messiah, only to be hit with a big Cage of Pain! Brandon is out cold, but Cage takes a few moments to cover his opponent. He finally does, but O'Neal gets his foot on the bottom rope just as the ref's hand came down for a second time. Cage now looks exasperated, and brings his opponent into the center of the ring, looking to go for the Cage Rush, but O'Neal makes a spectacular counter during the move and drills him with a Samoan Drop!
Both men are down again, but O'Neal gets back to his feet and begins measuring up Cage for his final effort. Cage stumbles to his feet, but sees O'Neal out of the counter of his eye and lifts him up onto his shoulders! O'Neal pokes Cage in the eyes from above, and then quickly drills a second Ego Trip on Cage, who was clawing at his bloody eyes.
Abigail Copeland: "Here's your winner...Brandon O'Neal!"
We focus once again on the office of Jonathan Cage. He’s sitting there fiddling through some papers when a knock comes out the door.
Cage: “Come in…”
With that the younger brother of Jonathan Cage, David comes into the office.
David: “What’s up, Jon?”
Cage: “Not much, but I do need to talk to you about something.”
David: “What’s that?”
Cage: “Sit down, please.”
He sits down as we head back to the ring.
Jenny Owens v. Kevin Sparx
Abigail Copeland: “The following contest is your Main Event of the evening and is scheduled for one fall…”
“Southern Thang” by Cloroks begins to play over the PA system as Kevin Sparx makes his entrance. He gets a lot of cheers and a couple of boos from this crowd. He walks down the ramp slapping hands with some of the fans who have their arms outstretched. He slides into the ring and removes his trench coat. With that, “I Got Money Now” by Pink starts to blast over the speakers signifying the entrance of Jenny Owens, the woman who cost Kaia Kologne her match last week. She gets a mixed reaction from the crowd as she walks down the ramp. The male fans whistle at her as she gets into the ring.
The ref signals for the bell and the contest begins. Owens motions to Sparx for a Greco roman knuckle lock. Sparx looks around like she’s a moron but eventually concedes to her demand and they lock up. Sparx, as expected, gets the upper hand immediately and drives Owens to her knees. Then in a sudden burst of power, Owens starts to regain some control but then Sparx kicks her in the gut. She doubles over enabling him to hit a gut wrench suplex. Owens lands on the mat hard causing her to arch up in pain.
Sparx begins to stomp on her midsection. You can hear the air escape her body as he continues the onslaught. She rolls to evade his feet but he catches up to her until she rolls out of the ring to catch her breath. But Sparx is relentless, he comes out there after her in which she takes advantage of by driving his back into the apron. She does it again and again. Then she connects with a vicious round kick to his face. You can see the face paint on her foot as she slides him into the ring.
She continues to stomp on him as he puts his hands up to protect his face. He finally catches her leg and stands up. He takes her down with a dragon screw leg whip. He goes to lock in The Coal Banker but she kicks him off of her and stands up. She rushes him and drops the leg down on his throat. She then locks in a head scissors causing him to flop and down in an attempt to escape. He eventually does, stands up and she charges him again this time he moves sending her crashing into the turnbuckle. She backs out and he attempts the reverse DDT he calls the Ignition. She turns around and lands a devastating brain buster. She then ascends the top rope like a cat and comes off with the Rated R, her version of the Shooting Star Press. She lands it flush onto Sparx. The ref jumps into position and the three count is academic.
Abigail Copeland: “Here is your winner…JENNY OWENS!!!”
“I Got Money Now” plays as she celebrates in the center of the ring. The fans give her a better reaction than they did before the match. She exits the ring and heads to the back as we go off the air.
